Day 40
Don't worry, I'll bring back elevation graphs when I start up the mountains.
The morning seemed to threaten a storm, but it cleared up well.
Straight 10 mile road with the mountains growing ever closer on the horizon.
Enjoyed the juxtaposition of the oil pump against the shadow of the mountains.
Salt stains on my clothes after the sweat evaporated. There was a strange white powder coating my arms that I didn't realize was salt until I licked it. I was exhausted today, and didn't manage my salt well enough. Not counting days I spent sick (which were not very restful), I haven't rested since Chicago. Looking forward to a well deserved break!

Great progress. Enjoy the mountains. Plan some hike. You know I'll join you!!
ReplyDeleteSue and I are really enjoying the progress of your "quest" - what an adventure! It's sort of like you're now approaching the Misty Mountains, except you won't have to go through Moria. And I'm still thinking about those Irish Nachos!
ReplyDeleteI am too haha
DeleteSay hi and thanks to Janet and Todd for me!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're meeting so many interesting people -- that would be (I think) the biggest challenge for me. I never realized you were *that* salty! And you do sound like maybe you could use a day off soon :-)
ReplyDeleteLicking unknown white powders might not always be the best identification strategy...just saying, as your mother.
ReplyDeleteWhoa! Noticed 53.8 mph max speed recorded! You're taking sweaty to a whole 'nothah level!
ReplyDeleteHaha I wish I could go that fast, that's just due to my phone glitching out because I had it in power saving mode. I would be surprised if I went faster than 20 that day
DeleteYou need a serious break before you start the mountains!
ReplyDeleteSat., June 26 - Good luck today, Isaac, it looks like today is the biggest challenge. Hope all goes well.
